Sometimes a connection becomes visible when you place familiar things beside something unexpected.
I made this collage using Lady J originals, horses, and the Knight of Cups tarot card. Together, they opened up a conversation about shape, movement, and meaning. The elongated links. The rounded, stirrup-like forms. The way a substantial metal connection meets a luminous stone.
With the Year of the Fire Horse as a backdrop, I found myself looking more closely at the horse, not only as an image, but as a way of thinking about the things we wear.
A connection becomes the focal point
Equestrian-inspired jewelry draws on the visual language of riding hardware: links, rings, buckles, and stirrup-like shapes. What interests me is the balance between utility and beauty. A form can be compelling because it has something to do.
In jewelry, a connector holds elements together, but it also establishes proportion and movement. It determines how a pendant hangs, how a chain flows, and where the eye pauses.
Looking at my pieces through this lens, the hardware becomes more than a supporting detail. It has a presence of its own.
You can see that interplay in the Strawberry Quartz Necklace, where handmade silver links meet a faceted, luminous stone.
Beside a colorful stone, that structure creates a contrast I love. Metal gives the eye a clear line to follow. The stone interrupts it with something less predictable: a flash of color, an inclusion, a change in the light.
The Fire Horse: an invitation to move
The Year of the Fire Horse gives this exploration a timely spark.
For me, the image brings up questions about momentum and independence. What are we moving toward? Where do we need more freedom? When is it time to trust our own direction?
I’m not looking to turn those questions into a fixed meaning for every piece. I’m interested in what happens when an image meets a particular moment in someone’s life.
A piece of jewelry can become a reminder of a decision, a new chapter, or a part of ourselves we want to give more room.
The horse in tarot
Tarot offers a separate thread.
In the Knight of Cups card pictured in my collage, a mounted figure carries a cup. What draws me in is the meeting of movement and feeling: a rider going somewhere while holding something with care.
Placed beside the jewelry, that image creates a lovely tension. Strong links and substantial settings sit alongside stones full of light and nuance. Neither quality needs to cancel out the other.
Strength can hold sensitivity. Forward movement can still be thoughtful.
Wear your own interpretation
These pieces are Lady J originals. The collage offers another way to see them, rather than a single explanation of what they must mean.
You might notice the equestrian echoes first. You might be drawn to the gemstone, the rhythm of the chain, or the feeling of the whole piece.
That openness matters to me. I make the jewelry, but the story continues with the person who wears it.
Sometimes a link is simply a beautiful shape. Sometimes it becomes a reminder of what holds us together, or what gives us the courage to move.
