What is Banded Fluorite?

Fluorite is a calcium fluoride mineral found all over the world, but banded fluorite is something special. It forms in distinct layers — each band a different color, created by variations in trace minerals and growth conditions over thousands of years. No two pieces are alike. The color combinations can range from deep purple and forest green to pale lavender and ivory, sometimes all in a single stone.

It rates a 4 on the Mohs hardness scale, which means it’s best suited for pendants, earrings, and pieces that won’t take heavy daily impact — which is also why it’s less commonly used in jewelry, making Lady J pieces all the rarer.
