Necklace and Chain Lengths Guide

A Guide to Finding the Right Chain Length for your Body and Outfit

14"will hug your neck tight

_________________________________________________________________________

16" the choker length will sit at the base of your neck and at the center of the clavicle. This is a great option if you wear button down collared shirts, as the fit sits nicely inside the collar. A choker can also work well with your favorite Tee.

18"  this is one of the most typical length of necklaces you will find when you are shopping for a necklace. It's a 'best bet 'when buying a gift for someone. It sits below the clavicle, right at the beginning of the sternum. This is the length to pick if you are wearing a dress or blouse with a low-cut necklace because it won't get stuck in your cleavage.

20" sits a little bit lower on the sternum, a great length for a larger stone to sit in the center and in a nicely proportionate way. If you wear turtlenecks this is a great length.

22" will land in the middle of the sternum. This length is good to wear with a bulky sweater or sweater dress.

26" will reach the almost bottom of your sternum. As the chain length gets longer, it reads more dramatic and elegant. Try this length with a blazer and Tee under it. It gives nice long lines.

30" will fall at the bottom of the sternum

BONUS: If you wear larger than a C cup bra size, I suggest you size-up. So for example if the most common chain length is 18" and you wear a D cup bra, you should buy a 20" chain. This way the chain will hang nicely under the clavicle and at the beginning of the sternum.

_________________________________________________________________________

***Keep in mind the weight/thickness of the chain as it will effect how it hangs

***Thin delicate chains are good for layering. You can buy lengths in graduated inches like 16", 18" and 20". Each chain should be different to emphasize its own distinguishability.

Finally, all the above chain lengths are standard sizes, however we know that sometimes the 'standard size' is not for everyone. Please know that at Lady J Jewelry we can custom-cut the chain length so it will fit you perfectly. Please reach out with any questions: ladyjjewelry@gmail.com
