About the lady and the company
Jessica D’Amico is the creative and artistic force behind Lady J Jewelry Designs. Miss D’Amico comes from a family of artists; her grandmother was an exceptional painter, her parents are esteemed hair-stylists and her brother is an extraordinary photographer. Miss D’Amico was formally educated at Pratt Art Institute in Brooklyn where she majored in sculpture, with a concentration in metal smithing and jewelry design. In 1998, Miss D’Amico participated in a special studies program at The California College of Arts and Crafts, where she studied under metal smith, Maralyn DeSilva. Miss D’Amico learned special techniques in metal smithing, creating provocative projects such as ceiling-to-floor candelabras, two-foot metal serving spoons and a metal tiara. After completing her studies, Miss D’Amico worked for East Village jewelry designers Sara Samoiloff and Dan Natkjil, and also accepted numerous freelance projects. In 2003, Jessica embarked on her own, launched her company, Lady J Jewelry Designs, and opened ladyjjewelry.com. Also in 2003, Lady J Jewelry Designs gained exposure and was featured in the Young Designers Showcase in SoHo. In 2004, Miss D'Amico's Lady J Jewelry Designs won selection for inclusion in SoHo boutique 30VanDam. Later that year, Lady J Jewlery Designs was featured in the independant film Alchemy, staring Sara Chalke. In 2005 & 2006, press releases and sales growth led to Demographix Magazine penning a lead story on Lady J Jewelry Designs, with glowing reviews of the launch of the Giraffe Collection and the Saturn Series~the Leather & Silver Line. Also in late 2006, the highly-acclaimed Saturn Series continued to gain momentum and was featured in The Ave. Magazine and both the Giraffe Collection & Saturn Series were featured in Heeb Magazine. During a very busy 2006, despite the demands of managing her business and a pregnancy, Miss D'Amico found time to teach jewelry design to young students at Mott Hall in Manhattan. In 2007, the company continued its rapid growth and received further praise, with recent features in InStyle Magazine, Lucky Magazine, diything.com, iVillage.com and A.M. New York. Now in 2008, the company's exotic new Fall collection, Sweet Leaf, was recently unveiled at trade events in February & March, and has since been featured in WWD and Accessories Magazine.
